Go forth!

Dear friends, supporters, and benefactors of the Companions of the Cross, peace and greetings in Jesus Christ the Lord and in the precious gift of His Holy Spirit!

Welcome to our newsletter Missio. It is with great joy that I write my first article as the General Superior of the Companions of the Cross. The name Missio highlights the fact that we, as a community of priests and seminarians, like the Church herself, exist primarily in order to be “sent out”, as the Latin word “missio” signifies.

Jesus stated before his Ascension:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Mat 28:19-20)

We strongly believe in this call of our Lord to continually seek to go forth proclaiming, witnessing, and ministering the Gospel. We want to keep you, our friends and benefactors, informed of the progress of our mission; one that we cannot fulfil alone. It is only together, as priests and laity, that we form the Church and only together as members of the One Body of Christ that we possess all the gifts necessary to accomplish this great purpose the Lord has given us.

By this newsletter, we also wish to inspire you to share in our mission, whether that be through your prayer and intercession, direct participation in our ministries, or through your financial and material support.

My hope is that this Missio will be a form of encouragement and connection with you. May you be inspired to continue to serve the Lord, according to your state of life, and according to the call and gift s that He has given you. Go forth and announce the Gospel of the Lord!

Fr. Roger Vandenakker, CC General Superior
