“Take care to guard against all greed for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” (Luke 12:15)
What are some of the types of greed the Lord wants to warn us about?
- Greed over possessions.
- Greed of our opinion.
- Greed over our time.
- Greed over personal image.
What can we do in the face of these forms of greed?
- Greed over our possessions – Things we are no longer using don’t belong to us. They belong to the poor. When was the last time you went through stuff and got rid of stuff things we no longer use? Give it away.
- Greed of our opinion – When in conversation, do I practice talking less and listening more? Do I hear others or am I selfish in having them hear me?
- Greed over our time – God, give me the grace to put myself second or third in the circumstances of life. Open up horizons for me to volunteer to put other interests before mine. Give me the grace to break out of this self interest.
- Greed over personal image – Is there a 24 hour time in your life where you don’t go on social media? Turn the ‘things’ off and be okay with who you are. God tells us who we are, not other people or things.
