Step 0
It is a decision to show up. It is a reminder that we can’t do it alone. Conversion begins with those 3 simple words, ‘God help me.’
It’s not a question of going from bad to good. It is a question of going from ill to better. The 12 steps don’t teach us techniques or cure the addict. They don’t teach us if we are indeed an addict. They don’t teach us how to practice our addiction.
They prepare us for a spiritual experience. They allow us to have a spiritual experience of God realizing that our lives have become unmanageable and we need God’s help. The 12 steps are applicable to all our lives and can help us have an experience of God. They help us open up to new realities with God.
Step 1
We admit that we are powerless over ___________ (Fill in the blank)__________. We admit powerlessness and that our lives have become unmanageable. What is the fill in blank for you?
Throughout this time of pandemic, it has become painfully obvious that we are powerless over so many things! Do we accept that?
We only gain power when we accept the fact that we are powerless and begin to rely on God’s power in our lives.
