You were created for relationship with God
God created you, knows you, and loves you personally. He sees you as his child and he will never stop loving you.
“See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are.” (1 John 3:1)
God has good plans for your life
God is love. He is good and has your best interests at heart. God can be trusted and is constantly working for your good.
“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Knowing who you are in the eyes of God brings freedom and security.
Being in relationship with God is an endless source of love, strength, wisdom, and hope. It is a relationship that brings purpose, direction, and help in all areas of our lives.
Sin has broken humanity’s relationship with God
The unity of this loving relationship we were created for has been damaged. Something has come between God and us: sin. We have all sinned and turned away from God in the things we have done or failed to do (see Romans 3:23).
“Sin has real consequences. It harms our relationship with God, with others, and with ourselves. It can bring guilt, emptiness, and feeling far from God. As sin severs our relationship with God, it leaves us lost and without hope. Turning away from God is painful, and it causes real suffering (despair, not knowing our value and identity, abuse, selfishness, greed, using others, lying, killing, adultery…).”
Sin can have an even worse consequence. As we have true freedom and can stubbornly choose to resist God’s call to repentance, we can lock ourselves into a final and definitive ‘no’ to God’s love–choosing eternal separation from him in hell.
God has given us a Savior
God loves us so much that he could not bear to be separated from us. He sent his Son Jesus to restore our relationship with Him.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)
When Jesus was nailed to the cross, he took upon himself all the consequences of our sins, and by his rising from the dead brought us new life. Jesus alone restores our relationship with God and bridges the gap caused by sin. That is why he says;
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
You can experience this restored relationship.
Inviting Jesus into your life will set you free from sin
“If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful, and great. No! Only in this friendship are the doors of life opened wide. Only in this friendship is the great potential of human existence truly revealed… do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ – and you will find true life.” (Pope Benedict XVI)
“Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.” (Revelation 3:20)
Jesus desires to be at the centre of your life.
Whether you have been close or far from him in the past, he is waiting for you to open the door.

“Lord Jesus, I believe that you know me and love me. I have not always chosen to love you, and have broken my relationship with you through my sins. Thank you for proving your love for me on the cross so that our relationship can be restored. I open the door of my heart and I invite you to be at the centre of my life – to be my Savior and my Lord. Direct me and help me to live the Gospel with my whole life. Amen.”
The Church will strengthen and deepen your relationship with Jesus
In the Church that Jesus established on earth, we have communion with him and are under his protection. We also receive guidance from those whom he has appointed leaders of his Church (see Luke 10:16). We are under the authority of the Apostle Peter and his successors, and Peter was given the keys to the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:18-19). Though there may be some truth, or even a lot of truth, found elsewhere – the Catholic Church contains the fullness of truth (1 Timothy 3:15). If you want to learn more about the Catholic faith, you can seek out instruction (such as the program called R.C.I.A., or “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults”). Becoming part of the communion of the Church is a beautiful experience. (You can watch or read many inspiring conversion stories here)
You can confess your sins and be reconciled to God
Jesus equipped his Church with seven powerful signs of grace, known as the sacraments. One of these is known as the sacrament of Reconciliation. It was established by Jesus when he gave his Apostles the power to forgive sins:
“When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:22-23).
In this sacrament we confess our sins to a priest and receive the gift of forgiveness from God, which brings us freedom and new life. Take time to find a priest to hear your confession.
“Come now, let us argue it out, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be like snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”(Isaiah 1:18)
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9)
