Messier, Fr. Bernard

What was your background before you joined the CC?
I was born in a large French Canadian family in Windsor. I was raised in Belle Rivière and lived the last five years in Pointe aux Roches before I joined my community. I studied and worked in the manufacturing industry specializing in plastics and metallurgy.  It was at the time when I pursued a degree in engineering that I strongly felt the call to direct my studies toward the priesthood.

What led you to join this community?
When I decided to seriously consider the priesthood, I felt called to a religious order. I wanted to join a contemplative community, but a friend of my parents steered me towards Fr. Bob Bedard. I contacted Fr. Bob and was invited to visit the community in Ottawa. When I visited the community for the first time I was immediately attracted to the brotherhood. I was impressed with the camaraderie and how the community members prayed together. I was discerning other religious communities, but I truly felt at home in this one. When I returned home from my trip I knew in my spirit that God wanted me to join the Companions of the Cross.

What kind of ministry are you doing now?
I am currently serving as the Director of Formation.
