Kazim Dottin was born and raised in Grenada as the eldest of three children, surrounded by the strong influence of his Catholic mother, extended family, and parish community. He enjoys connecting with others, outdoor activities, Korean music and culture, and has spent several years learning the Korean language.

Faith played a central role in his upbringing in Grenada, where regular Mass attendance, Catholic schooling, daily prayer, school liturgies, Adoration, and parish involvement shaped his spiritual foundation. Over time, he served as a lector, altar server, choir member, and youth leader, while members of his parish and religious sisters began to recognize in him a possible call to the priesthood. At first, Kazim resisted this idea, partly because he had seen priests experience loneliness and the burdens of parish ministry. This led him to desire marriage, children, and family life within the Church.

After moving to Canada following secondary school, he faced cultural differences, isolation, and difficulty finding friendship in the Church, yet his love for Christ and the Eucharist kept him attending Mass. During the COVID-19 restrictions, his time away from church helped him recognize the importance of the Sacraments and the priesthood, prompting him to begin exploring priestly life and religious communities, though he initially found none that drew him. Later, after entering York University and becoming involved in Catholic chaplaincy, he formed Catholic friendships and rediscovered a faith that grew even deeper than before.

Through his encounter with Fr. JP, Kazim saw a model of priesthood that was joyful, fraternal (and maybe a little weird?), leading him to consider seriously that he could live such a vocation. His first Come and See with the Companions of the Cross profoundly affected him, as he experienced genuine fraternity, belonging, and a vision of how God could use him as he truly is.
