My name is Fr. Jorge Alvarado. I was born and raised in Monterrey, Mx as the youngest of 4 children, two sisters and a brother. I graduated from University (UANL) with a degree in engineering. When I think about my childhood, I remember going to Church every Sunday with my parents and siblings. I used to be part of the altar servers team and of the youth ministry.
At the age of 15 I had in my mind the idea of not being loved. I wanted to be loved and accepted so I changed my behavior in order to look “cool” among my friends. I knew that God existed but He was not important to me. I wanted to “fit” into society. Living away from God’s commandments led me to experience deeper loneliness and emptiness. I felt my life was senseless.
When I was 18, I had a conversion experience. I would say that it took place in two steps. First, I was invited to a Charismatic conference. In this place the Lord opened my eyes and made me aware of the reality of His presence in the Eucharist. I found out that JESUS IS ALIVE and that He has the power to heal and transform lives. He touched my life and let me experience his love as I had never experienced it before. He changed my sadness into joy. After that, I went to a life in the spirit seminar and I had a powerful encounter with God’s Word. I understood that His Word is true and that I needed to know it if I wanted to live as a Christian and find fulfillment in life.
Eventually, I began to serve the Lord in the evangelization team and I realized that this is what I wanted to do the rest of my life. Then, I felt the Lord was calling me to be a priest and, in a very providential way, I heard about the Companions of the Cross. It has been a great adventure. I have learned and I am still learning a lot from my brothers. They have been a great example of discipleship and Christian life. My desire to serve God’s people has been increasing. Please pray for me so that I can surrender my whole life to Christ and do His perfect will every moment of my life.
What kind of ministry are you doing now?
I currently serve as the director of the Catholic Charismatic Center in Houston, TX.
