Ordained – May 16, 1972

He was ordained and incardinated in the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey in 1972. A tireless evangelizer, Fr. Ed is one of the founders of the Fraternity of Priests at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, where he was Director of Student Evangelization. Before moving to Houston, Texas to join the Catholic Charismatic Center, Fr. Ed traveled the world giving missions; he lived in an ecumenical community seeking unity among Christians in Belfast, Northern Ireland; and he held various pastoral positions in urban and rural parishes. After retirement, he continued his work in ecumenical relations.

His desire for community life, and his zeal for evangelization and ministry in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, led Fr. Ed to join the Companions of the Cross in 1998.

“Fr. Ed is a prophet and an enigma,” says one of his brothers, Fr. Michael Scherrey, CC. “A prophet is a person regarded as an inspired teacher. An enigma is a person who is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. Fr. Ed is at times a prophet, sometimes difficult to understand, but he is definitely proclaiming the Word of God with his heart!”

Eternal rest grant unto your servant O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace and may his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
