Blessings of Obedience

We need to imitate the obedience of Abraham to be blessed.

Three points of the homily:

1. God calls us to leave behind our old life in order to embrace the new life.

The story of Abraham is here in lent because just like Abraham who was called to leave his land, we the children of Abraham are also called to change our lives by letting go of the life to embrace the new life.

"True Fasting lies in rejecting evil, holding one's tongue, suppressing one's hatred, and banishing one's lust, evil words, lying, and betrayal of vow." - St. Basil the Great.

2. We obey God if we trust in Him. We will only trust in Him if we know Him.

3. Blessings are given to those who obey.

"To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." Ephesians 4:22-24
